The short version

AMLE is a free directory run by CAIR-Chicago and MLFA. Nobody pays to be listed. Anything you enter on the registration form is meant to be published, and messages you send through the contact form are not. We never sell your information, and you can have your listing changed or removed at any time by asking us.

What AMLE is

The American Muslim Legal Ecosystem (AMLE) is a free public directory of attorneys, law firms, legal clinics, and legal organizations that serve American Muslim communities. It is a joint project of CAIR-Chicago and the Muslim Legal Fund of America (MLFA).

AMLE is not a law firm and does not practice law. It is an information service. It helps you find people who might be able to help, and stops there. It does not match you to a lawyer, take a fee for a referral, or take part in whatever you arrange with a member.

By using this site you agree to these terms. If you do not agree with them, please do not use the site. Our legal disclaimer covers what a listing does and does not mean, and it forms part of these terms.

No paid listings

Every listing on AMLE is free. No attorney, firm, or organization has paid us to be listed, and no one can pay us to be listed, to rank higher, or to be described more favourably. We accept no advertising and take no commission on any work a member gets through this site.

Members are compiled from community recommendations, professional referrals, and direct outreach to Muslim legal professionals who agreed to take part. Others applied through this site and passed our review. The order results appear in is not a ranking.

Listings and submissions

What you are agreeing to publish

When you submit a listing, you are asking us to publish it. Treat everything you enter on the registration form as public. Your name, organization, office address, phone numbers, email address, practice areas, bar admissions, languages, biography, photo or logo, and any links you provide can all appear on your public profile and be indexed by search engines. Do not enter anything you would not want published.

What you are promising us

You confirm that the information is accurate, that you are licensed and in good standing where you say you are, and that you are authorized to submit it, either for yourself or on behalf of the organization you are listing. You confirm you have the right to use any photo or logo you upload.

What we may do

We may edit a listing for length, clarity, or formatting. We may decline to publish one, or remove one at any time. That includes cases where information turns out to be inaccurate or out of date, where a license lapses, or where a member no longer meets the standards in our legal disclaimer.

Keeping it current

Please tell us when your details change. You can update or withdraw your listing at any time by contacting us.

Acceptable use

This directory exists so that people looking for legal help can find it. Members share their contact details on that understanding. So please do not do any of the following.

  • Scrape, crawl, bulk-download, or copy the directory, in whole or in substantial part
  • Use member contact details to send marketing, solicitations, or unsolicited bulk email
  • Republish or resell listings as your own directory or dataset
  • Submit false, misleading, or impersonating information, or a listing for someone who has not agreed to it
  • Try to reach accounts or systems you are not authorized to use, or otherwise interfere with the site

We may block access or remove content that breaks these rules.

Disclaimer of warranties and limitation of liability

AMLE is provided free of charge, as is and as available, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. We work to keep listings accurate and the site available, but we do not warrant that either will be uninterrupted or error-free.

To the fullest extent the law allows, CAIR-Chicago, MLFA, and their staff, officers, and volunteers are not liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss arising from your use of this site, your reliance on anything published on it, or your dealings with any member you found through it. Some places do not allow certain limitations. Where that is the case, this section applies to the maximum extent permitted there.

What information we collect

Information you give us

Directory submissions. The details on the registration form. That covers name, organization, contact information, office location, bar admissions, practice and focus areas, languages, client and intake information, biography, photo or logo, website, and social links.

Contact form. Your name, email address, subject, and message.

Newsletter. Your email address, and an optional note about your interests.

Information collected automatically

Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs. These record things like IP address, browser type, pages requested, and timestamps, and they are used to keep the site running and secure.

We do not run advertising trackers, analytics pixels, or third-party behavioural cookies on this site. The only cookies we use are the ones needed to keep the site working.

How we use and share information

We use what we collect for a short list of purposes.

  • Publishing and maintaining directory listings
  • Replying to enquiries sent through the contact form
  • Sending the newsletter to people who asked for it
  • Verifying licensure and reviewing submissions before publishing
  • Keeping the site secure and working

We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information, and we do not share it for anyone's marketing. Information reaches others in only three ways. Directory listings are public by design. Our service providers, principally Google Firebase, which hosts the site and stores its data, process information on our instructions. And we may disclose information where the law requires it or to protect someone's safety.

Contact form messages and newsletter sign-ups are never published. They are seen only by CAIR-Chicago staff working on AMLE.

Your choices, retention, and security

Your choices

You can ask us at any time to correct, update, or remove your listing, unsubscribe from the newsletter, or delete the messages you have sent us. Just contact us. We do not charge for this and we do not require a reason. Depending on where you live you may have additional rights over your data. Tell us what you want and we will honour it.

How long we keep it

Listings stay published until you or we withdraw them. Contact messages and newsletter sign-ups are kept until you ask us to delete them, or until they are no longer needed for the purpose you sent them for.

Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect what we hold. No transmission over the internet is ever completely secure, though, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. That is one more reason to keep sensitive case details out of web forms.

Children

AMLE is meant for adults seeking legal help and for legal professionals. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has sent us information, please tell us and we will delete it.

Changes, governing law, and contact

We may update these terms as the site changes or the law does. The date at the top of this page always shows the current version, and continuing to use the site after a change means you accept it. Where a change materially affects listed members, we will make a reasonable effort to tell them.

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Illinois, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. If any part of them is found unenforceable, the rest stays in force.

Contact us to ask a question, correct a listing, remove your information, or report a problem. We read everything that comes in.

Questions about anything on this page? Contact us and we will answer.
